Plan Your Shopping For Times When You'll Get The Best Deals

by Andrea Dilea

Are you frustrated with operating on a limited budget while trying to find a special outfit for a formal occasion? Try some of the following tips for finding the perfect outfit at a pocketbook-friendly price.

Make sure you look at clearance racks. Most of what you'll find there is the junk no one wanted to buy last season, but sometimes you'll also find an unexpected jewel that you can buy for a fraction of the original price.

Shop ahead. If you know you have a special occasion coming up, and you need the perfect outfit, start looking well in advance. This gives you the opportunity to check all the stores and even order online. Wait too long, and you could have to settle for whatever fits. In most stores, the plus size section is a lot smaller than the 'regular' clothes, meaning the selection also leaves something to be desired. Look for clothes that can be used elsewhere. This won't reduce the price of any individual garment, but it does mean that you can make part of your budget do double duty. If you can find a formal dress that doubles for work, part of your problem is solved.

Be sure to shop around. That's the only way you're going to find the best deals. You may find the right top at the right price at one store and the shoes at another. Be aware that trendy brand names don't always mean top quality goods. Although it's true that some brand name clothes have better-quality construction than generic counterparts, always make sure you're paying for more than just a name. Plus size consumers need to watch out for markups in prices caused by nothing but brand name labels.

Don't choose your clothing based solely on the cheapest price. The cheap stuff may fit, but is it flattering? Is it well-made to last? The best rule of thumb is to make sure you only spend your clothing allowance on well-made items that will become lasting parts of your wardrobe. When considering plus size clothing, it can be very difficult to find clothing that is both well made and looks good. Shopping carefully usually results in you adding items to your wardrobe that will last a long time.

Be a smart shopper. Use these tips when on the hunt for new clothes. Check your favorite store circulars for special sales. Once in the store always remember to check for mark downed items. Save money by looking for bargains. Look your best by considering quality and a good match for your plus size first. High prices don't necessarily mean quality and the best style and fit for you.
