If you are pregnant, then you have also gained some extra weight. As such, your mattress may no longer be able to support you properly. The pressure points located throughout your body may become more agitated as you sleep resulting in a bad night’s rest. For a woman who is pregnant this can lead to many more hassles throughout the day then they may be willing to deal with.

As a pregnant woman gains weight throughout the pregnancy, the pressure points on her body will change; especially in the abdominal region. In the case of a softer mattress, the woman’s weight may become too excessive for the mattress and sleep will become unbearable. Elevation and circulation!

Elevating the neck and head as well as the legs can improve circulation while you sleep. This can help reduce pain caused by pressure points and allow you and your baby to sleep longer.

Stretching is not just for when you wake up. Your muscles and joints are tired and if you put forth the effort to stretch a little before going to bed, your sleep quality will improve substantially.

As any married couple knows, each person has their own side of the bed. However when pregnant, a woman may need to sleep in a different position to become comfortable and in some cases this may even require the changing of the sides in which you sleep on.

Being comfortable is the most important part of sleep.

You have to be comfortable when you sleep. This of course is an obvious one, but one thing many people fail to take into account is the height of the bed from the floor. This can have a dramatic impact on one’s ability to get comfortable and for a pregnant woman this height can change suddenly.

When a woman is pregnant, she will require more sleep then normal. As such she will end up spending more time in bed. Keeping comfortable therefore takes on a whole new meaning as one goes from 8 hours a day in bed to 10 or even 12. Making sure you are as comfortable as possible is important and this means you may even need to get some new pillows; body, hotdog and head pillows to ensure the proper support is available.
